A datamodel for material characteristics

ChaMISEn aims at providing a datamodel for databases that allows to store, retrieve and link together data and metadata describing the characteristics of materials interacting with the space environments. Longterm conservation of material characteristics not only depends on the storage of numerical value for a predefined set of parameters assumed to be intrinsic to materials (bulk conductivity, dielectric constants,...). With time, models evolve and the environement in which the materials are deployed does too. Then, it becomes necessary to question the uniqueness of the parameter, the models behind them, the experimental condition under which they were determined... which in turns requires that such information be associated with the parameter value.

ChaMISEn is a versatile datamodel allowing to store, link and retrieve various resources from the material characteristics values to the models and experiments behind it and the publications associated. It is a spin-off of the SPASE data model which is widely used by all major space actors worldwide for space environment databases.

ChaMISEn is available for free. The datamodel itself is available under Apache 2.0 licence (consistent with SPASE's), associated documentation is under Creative Commons licence and the associated librairies are available under open-source CeCILL licences.
