Dr. Marco Carini (Politecnico di Milano, Italy)

July 2016 – May 2017

Piezo-electric patches for the control of aeroelastic instabilities

After graduating in Aeronautical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in July 2009, Marco was enrolled in the PhD program from the same university under the supervision of prof. Franco Auteri, working on the stability and control of bluff body flows. Just after receiving his doctoral degree in March 2013, he was involved in the CleanSky project GUM on rotorcraft aerodynamics and from November 2014 to April 2016 he held a post-doctoral position at the Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse to study the active control of turbulent bluff-body wakes. Then in July 2016 he joined ONERA as a post-doc researcher within the AEROFLEX ERC project and on May 2017 he got a permanent position as research engineer within the Civil Aircraft Unit (ACI) of the ONERA Aerodynamics, Aeroelasticity and Acoustics Department.

Dr. Nicolo Fabbiane (KTH, Stockholm, Sweden)

January 2018 – Present

Interaction of boundary-layer flow instabilities with flexible pillars.

Shortly after graduating in Aeronautical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in December 2011, Nicolò started his PhD studies in Stockholm (Sweden) at KTH under the supervision of Prof. Dan Henningson and Dr. Shervin Bagheri. He defended his thesis "Transition-Delay in boundary-layer flows via reactive control" in June 2016.

Since January 2017 he is employed as a post-doc at ONERA where he worked on flow-reconstruction techniques via data-assimilation and, starting from January 2018, on the stability of flexible micro-pillars interacting with boundary-layer flows whithin the ERC-AEROFLEX project.
